How LocalStash works

Find the roads worth taking and the local places worth stopping for.

LocalStash helps travelers explore memorable Towns and locally owned businesses. People who know a place help surface what matters, and a person reviews what becomes public.

For travelers

Explore with a little more local knowledge.

Start broad, follow a road that interests you and open the places that give the trip its character.

  1. 01

    Choose how to explore

Use Discovery when you want inspiration, or Travel when you already know the direction you are heading.

  2. 02

    Open a Town or Journey

See the character of a place, the roads that connect it and the local stops that make the trip worth taking.

  3. 03

    Find a Stash

A Stash is a locally owned place selected because it adds something memorable to the Town or Journey.

  4. 04

    Use your free Club card

Show your digital or printed card when ordering or checking out. Backroad Club cardholders receive 10% off at participating Stashes.

For locally owned businesses

From local recommendation to connected Stash.

A Stash is not a paid directory listing. It is an approved local place connected to the Towns and Journeys where it is genuinely useful.

Recommend a business
  1. 01

    Tell us about the place

A business owner, traveler or community member can recommend a locally owned business for consideration.

  2. 02

    A person reviews it

LocalStash checks the fit, the public details and whether the place adds something useful to the traveler experience.

  3. 03

    Participation is confirmed

The owner sees what participation means and makes a clear decision before anything is published or charged.

  4. 04

    The Stash becomes connected

An approved Stash can appear in the right Town and Journeys, helping travelers understand why it is worth a stop.

  5. 05

    Useful updates can travel

Approved events, seasonal offers and local stories can be adapted for the right LocalStash channels.

What participation costs

Right now: All currently published Stashes hold permanent Founding Stash recognition.

Later: Each new market begins with a limited Founding Stash allocation. Later approved Stashes pay the current one-time $197 activation fee.

For community organizations

Local knowledge can help open the Town.

LocalStash works with organizations that understand the community and want more traveler attention to reach locally owned places.

See community participation
  1. 01

    Share local knowledge

Help identify the places, stories and roads that give the community its character.

  2. 02

    LocalStash shapes the journey

We research, organize and review the information before it becomes public.

  3. 03

    The Town opens for discovery

Travelers get a clearer reason to visit, stay longer and spend with locally owned businesses.

The LocalStash model

Three relationships, each with a different purpose.

These labels explain how a place or organization participates. They do not change the traveler journey above.

01

Stash

A locally owned place worth knowing along the way, selected through human review.

Every currently published Stash is a Founding Stash and participates in the Backroad Club.

02

Founding Community Partner

A Chamber, Main Street, visitor center, tourism organization or similar community-serving group that helps open a LocalStash Town.

Founding Community Partners can receive permanent acknowledgement without a required fee. Sponsorship remains optional and separate.

03

Sponsor

A person or organization LocalStash knows, trusts and is proud to stand beside.

Sponsors help carry LocalStash forward. Sponsorship can coexist with another relationship but does not replace human selection as a Stash or Community Partner.

One story, responsibly connected

Useful once, connected where it belongs.

One approved local fact can become useful across the journey. A verified event, new service, seasonal offer or community story can be adapted to the right LocalStash surfaces. AI can assist with the work, but a person approves what becomes public.

How trust is kept

Assisted by technology. Approved by people.

AI can assist with research and drafts, but a person approves participation and remains accountable.

LocalStash does not publish visitor ratings or operate a visitor review system.

Sponsorship does not buy Stash selection or editorial approval, and nothing is published or charged without a clear human decision.
